Atlanta Construction: Atlanta Ranked the 3rd Best City for Homeowners
Atlanta Number 3 for Owning a Home (Not as Great for Home Buyers)
Yes, a lot of what goes into a list about what makes a place good can be, well, subjective – but coming in at number three overall is still something worth being excited about.
And that’s where Atlanta comes in, at number three on Bankrate’s “The 10 Best Cities for Homeowners.”
Based on the latest data available, Bankrate, which provides consumer information and analysis, says Atlanta has the 6th-lowest property taxes out of all the 50 largest metro areas.
Metro Atlanta prices were also number eight on the fastest rising list – which is great news for owners. The average home has appreciated at an average annual rate of almost 11 percent over the past five years.
One of the negatives that kept Atlanta from being at the top was Georgia’s high average for property insurance, which comes out to be around $1,044 a year. Another negative is Atlanta has the 28th-highest foreclosure rate among the 50 largest metro areas.
Portland topped the list at number one, and Phoenix is second shortly after. (Which makes Atlanta the best city to own a home on that doesn’t start with the letter ‘P.’)
Bankrate argues Portland as the best because they had the lowest average property insurance premiums, a low foreclosure rate, and low maintenance costs.
“As long as I have been in commercial construction, a solid housing market leads to a solid commercial construction market,” President Eric Schoppman said. Schoppman Company is starting to see an increase in new building opportunities.”
